A team of 15 volunteers have planted a small copse of saplings featuring apple, pear, plum and cherry trees
Castle Douglas has a new community orchard thanks to a team effort between the council, the town’s community council and the National Trust for Scotland at Threave.
The small copse of saplings comprises apple, pear, plum and cherry trees for the use of the whole community and visitors when the fruit is ready to harvest. “The community council hopes they will not only add a splash of colour in Lochside Park but will also promote a friendly environment for pollinating insects. It is hoped that should this prove successful it could be replicated elsewhere.”
