The new strain is spreading rapidly across the world

The Arcturus variant is spreading across the globe, and has cost the five lives in UK to date, none of them north of border.

The new strain is present in at least 28 countries, with the majority of those cases, over 2,000, in India. Reports from doctors in India, where the strain is rife, have said they are seeing more children and adolescents with the variant presenting with conjunctivitis - or pink eye. The medical expert explained that there are other diseases which can cause pink eye including adenovirus which is common during the spring and summer time.
