The latest coronavirus case data in your area, with 15 locations recording new cases in the past week
The latest government figures, which coves the week ending August 26, show that 19 locations across the county recorded new cases. The data is published each week and divides Lancashire into much smaller areas to give an insight into the number of cases.
The areas recorded either 10-49 cases of Covid-19 or the higher range of 50-99, according to the MSOA . They also show that some areas have seen a 50% or more week-on-week rise in confirmed cases, with some recording a 100% increase.The new case figures come as fears grow over new variant Pirola. It is believed the the highly mutated strain has also been found in wastewater.
Although Covid-19 cases in the UK have started to rise in recent weeks, the jury still out on whether UK is set to face ‘a major wave’, amid hopes expedited booster will be effective against the new variant BA.2.86 - dubbed Pirola. The government brought forward its autumn coronavirus booster vaccine drive last week in response to the discovery with NHS officials saying it represents the most concerning new variant since Omicron first emerged. The new strain has spread to nine countries with a number of cases in the UK.Please note, case rates are shown per 100,000 people for the seven-day period ending on August 26.
