The new variant, dubbed KP 3.1.1, is surging across the UK and is now thought to be causing around 50 per cent of cases in the US.
Brits are being urged to "buckle up" as a fresh Covid variant emerges just as many are prepping for summer holidays.
Earlier this month, molecular medical professor Eric Topol spotted trouble on the horizon for people's immune defences against this variant, the Mirror reports. Back home, the Office for National Statistics reported 199 Covid-linked deaths in the week ending July 26. This number is creeping up from July 12 when the figure was 197.
