The Great British Insulation Scheme could help you save money on your energy bills
A new energy scheme could see residents struggling with the cost of heating their home reduce their bills by £400 a year, if they live in the right Council Tax bracket. Called the Great British Insulation Scheme, the government-backed support offers free or discounted insulation to help reduce household energy costs.
Eligibility for support depends on your home's energy performance certificate rating, which should be between D and G, and your Council Tax band, which should be in the lower A to D bands. The insulation fund is for homeowners, landlords, and tenants in both private and social housing - all of whom can apply for the money-saving scheme.
Tenants are advised to consult with their landlords before applying as their permission is required for insulation installation. Support may be available for cavity wall insulation, solid wall insulation , or loft insulation, reports Birmingham Live.Support may also be provided for flat or pitched roof insulation, underfloor insulation, solid floor insulation, park home insulation, or room-in-roof insulation.
Additionally, information about any benefits received by residents of the property is needed - this could make you eligible for additional support. Your email address or phone number will also be required so your energy supplier can contact you if you're eligible.Households might be able to cut their yearly energy bill by around £300 to £400 by seeking a home upgrade grant.
The organisation was set up by financial journalist Martin Lewis, who regularly appears on the BBC and ITV.
