Chefs at the 44-seater restaurant take full advantage of the wealth of local ingredients
There's plenty to worship at new restaurant The Chapel, which hopes to be a destination as well as attracting locals in Edwinstowe. The ingredients, all from within a ten-mile radius where possible, really shine.
Justin said:"We were a little bit limited in how much outdoor seating we could offer and how late we could stay open and we didn't want to have a smokehouse that closes early because it doesn't really match up with the sort of relaxed vibe, slow cooked meats, nice relaxed meal, drinking, staying up late, so I guess we hit a temporary barrier.
The Chapel, in High Street, opens every day except Monday, from 9am for breakfast. Welbeck Bakery cobs with sausage or bacon - and Nottingham's own HP Sauce are served. There's a full English and a veggie version and chorizo and cheddar potato croquettes with dippy eggs and chilli jam. Thomas Bohn, who is The Chapel's manager, said:"We have done everything, the bricks, the walls, the bar, it was just a shell before so it's something we're quite proud of, especially how fast we turned it around as well. We were getting home at 4 or 5 in the morning and back here for 11."
Justin will continue to run Smokehouse's home delivery boxes of"low 'n' slow" barbecue meat, which he set up during the pandemic. Previously he'd worked in 3 AA Rosette and two Michelin-starred restaurants in the Cotswolds but had taken a break from kitchens to work in finance for a better work-life balance.
