A consultation is now underway
Images have been released of how a Nottinghamshire bypass could look like after planned improvements. National Highways are proposing to widen the A46 around Newark-on-Trent into a 6.5km dual carriageway to alleviate worsening congestion for drivers.
The proposals for the design include a flyover junction at Cattle Market with the A46 elevated to pass over the roundabout, which will separate through traffic from local traffic to improve safety for all road users. It is also proposed that the Winthorpe roundabout is enlarged to a five arm roundabout with traffic lights to connect the new link, and for traffic lights to be added to the Farndon junction to improve the flow of traffic during peak hours.
