Five new journeymen were accepted at the AGM of the 600-year-old institution
Fears had been expressed for the future of the 600-year-old Haill Six Incorporated Trades due to a drop-off in numbers and support at events.
However, Friday’s AGM saw a good turnout of deacons and journeymen in the Tolbooth Arts Centre – with five new members introduced and accepted.General Clerk Ian McIntyre said: “It is very encouraging that we have younger folk coming forward. But clearly we have to keep our foot on the gas.” Mr McIntyre said: “It would be great to get our wider membership more engaged. We are going to do a mail drop and go out on foot to deliver the envelopes – that’s the next part of our strategy.
