A new indicator method has been developed to help understand who is most likely to die from malaria
"There were two reasons why we did this study," Professor Penelope Vounatsou told Sky News.
"Future studies should expand on our work in order to quantify malaria-related deaths across the world," said Isidoros Papaioannou, who also worked on the study. The parasite grows within red blood cells which can then burst. Once the number of red blood cells is too low people get anaemia.Mosquito nets, insecticides and antimalarial drugs are used to help prevent infection.
