As pro-Palestine demonstrations continue around the country, college students in Las Cruces mount their protest in solidarity.

, New Mexico State University students, staff and members of the Las Cruces community started an encampment "in unity with the Palestinian people and campuses around the globe."

According to the account, the plan is to occupy "Aggie Forest" until the NMSU board of regents meets their demands. What we are focused on is the people who are suffering for colonial ideology and we're not some pro-terror group. Organizers also said they're taking donations for food, hygiene products, and camping equipment, as well as trying to raise funds for Gaza organizations.

In response, NMSU's Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications Justin Bannister released the following statement saying they respect the demonstrators' rights: I can say that we know our colleagues at universities around the country are experiencing similar situations. Constitutionally, people have a right to protest peacefully, and public universities have a duty to respect, facilitate and protect this right. Efforts are being made to ensure First Amendment Free Speech protections are honored while ensuring the safety of our campus population. University leaders have spoken with these protestors multiple times over the past day.
