Landlords will have until 2030 to make improvements on their rental properties to upgrade them to EPC band C or higher
Announcing the scheme, the Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary Angela Rayner said it was a chance to “right the wrongs of the past” and “drive up housing standards”.Energy Performance Certificate ratings measure a property’s energy efficiency. They are also used to estimate typical energy costs for that building. Age, property and fuel type are the factors that most affect the chances of a high energy efficiency rating.
The Government is proposing a £15,000 cap on improvement fees for landlords, with a potential £10,000 cap if renters are charged lower rents or for homes in a lower council-tax band. However, it is not clear who would cover the rest of the fees, or which companies would provide the services. that it was essential that the Government work hand in hand with councils to bring about these changes.
