Powerlifting, which includes squats, bench press and deadlifts, is “currently being considered by the Olympic committee for inclusion as a sport for the Olympic Games”.
A new powerlifting gym can open in Dalmarnock after plans to convert industrial units were given the go ahead.
The firm intends to offer a “supportive and inclusive environment where individuals of all backgrounds and abilities” can take part in powerlifting and strength training. Work will see the “fit out of a light industrial shed for a strength and conditioning gym, with toilet facilities, an office, kitchenette and vending”.
The gym will have resident personal trainers who will pay a monthly rental fee to use the space to train clients. It is expected to open with four trainers.
