The menu features familiar ingredients but not necessarily served as you'd expect
The alleyway, the staircase up to the restaurant, the open pass, the skylight windows and wooden beams... it's all very familiar to food lovers who knew the space
The British theme continues with roast beef, devilled eggs, salad cream, and quince - but not necessarily served as you'd imagine. The cold roast beef with gherkin ketchup and fries, said Dan, is essentially beef carpaccio, while the salad cream is served with cured salmon. Dan, whose wife Helen will be helping out in the restaurant one day a week, said:"We were just throwing ideas around for the name. It's typically British, a bit old-fashioned. It's almost like it's not overly popular anymore compared to a lot of other condiments but I like it. At the minute its all about Asian condiments, black garlic ketchup and sriracha.
"Uncovering all this was like a bit of a win. Someone said to me, it's like one of the oldest buildings in Nottingham. I don't know how much truth there is in that. The beam are original and some of the black plinths are original.
