Australians lose record $3.1 billion to scams over 2022 periodA new report has found Australians lost a record $3.1 billion to scams last year meaning the average reported loss per scam rose to over $19,000, which is an increase of 54 per cent compared to 2021. The ACCC Targeting Scams report found investment scams amounted for the biggest share – followed by remote access scams and payment redirection fraud. The report also concluded the total amount lost was likely to be far greater than $3 billion due to 30 per cent of victims not reporting the crime.
