Raleigh Education Trust's bid was the only successful one in the East Midlands

A Nottinghamshire educational trust has expressed its excitement following its successful bid to provide an academy for pupils excluded from mainstream schools. The Raleigh Education Trust submitted an Alternative Provision Free School application in partnership with Nottingham City Council in 2023.

Elizabeth Browne, executive principal at Raleigh Education Trust, said: "Raleigh has been synonymous with hope, economic prosperity, and innovation since it began in 1885 on Raleigh Street in Nottingham. Sir Frank Bowden founded the Raleigh Bike Company just three years later, igniting a legacy that continues to inspire us today.

The school will provide places for children who have been permanently excluded from school as well as intervention places to support children at risk of exclusion. Principal Browne added: "This marks a significant milestone that presents an excellent opportunity for the Raleigh Education Trust to make a real difference in the lives of many children at risk of falling out of the system.

'He didn't think he had done anything wrong, except put the cats to sleep,' said an investigating source on Thursday. Agents working for AEPA, the French animal protection group, said 38 other cats, including 12 kittens and one pregnant adult, were also discovered alive around the man's house.
