A warning has been issued over the impact the cold weather could have on the NHS
Forecasters have warned the cold weather is "set to continue" with further "wintry showers" as parts of the region are already tackling heavy snow and flooding. A new amber cold health alert has been issued for the East Midlands which is valid from noon on Monday, January 6 until noon on Sunday, January 12.
The UKHSA said: "Cold weather is currently across much of the UK, with notable snow events over the weekend. This is set to continue through the coming week with cold northwesterly winds setting up across the country and temperatures are widely expected to be below the low impact threshold through the 5-day period.
"Overnight likely seeing widespread frosts developing. A less certain snow event is possible for southern parts on Wednesday, as a band of rain looks to run through the English Channel and across some southern counties.
