A proposed 44-storey apartment building with 364 units on Whitworth Street West in Manchester has taken a step closer to reality after developers submitted planning permission applications. The project, touted as pushing the boundaries of city centre living, includes communal amenity facilities housed in street-level arches. Meanwhile, plans for a neighboring 'skinny skyscraper' known as Vision Manchester have stalled after its developer entered administration last year. The land has been sold to a new developer who intends to explore alternative proposals for the site.

A skyscraper touted to ‘push the boundaries of city centre living’ has moved a step closer to becoming reality, but plans next door appear to be dead in the water.

Developers Glenbrook say arches on street level will house residents’ communal amenity facilities, in an effort to ‘push the boundaries of city centre living’. “We believe this development and its exceptional location offer the opportunity to push the boundaries of city-centre living, and we’re hugely excited about the prospect of bringing such a prestigious building to market.”

Companies House documents show its developer, a special-purpose vehicle called Vision Manchester Ltd, entered administration last June. The land has been sold to a new developer called Atri7 6 Limited Ltd, which ‘intends to explore an alternative proposal for the site’ according to a new application to Manchester city council to ‘discharge’ the landowners of an obligation to submit building proposals by November 2024, before construction starts.
