The planning committee met to decide on a number of new developments in Manchester
The council’s planning committee met on October 19 to approve new applications across the city which have gathered objections. A waterlogged grass pitch with drainage issues will be replaced by a state-of-the-art all weather sports surface at a school and dozens of homes priced at an affordable rate .
Over in Chorlton Park, there were concerns that construction of the new homes would disturb a business so much that they would have to shut up shop. The objector from Airtight Productions recording studio next door to the site told the committee this development could render them unable to work. Councillors heard how only a couple of months with no work could lead to them going out of business following pressures coming out of the Covid pandemic. A representative of Bowsall Developments Ltd explained that construction using technology to reduce noise impact would be used - which eased concerns of the committee about the business being impacted.
Installation of multi-use games area at East Manchester Academy There will be a new games area at the school in the Ancoats and Beswick area. The Grey Mare Lane site would also make the MUGA available for community use, the committee heard. The school also stated that there would be no loss of athletics provision in East Manchester, with a throwing cage relocated off site to facilitate the MUGA.
Extended opening hours for basement bar under flat complex The restaurant bar which sits beneath seven new apartments in the Northern Quarter can now open until the early hours.
