Thousands of people have signed an online petition calling for reforms to be made to the DWP benefit.
More than 10,280 people have signed an online petition calling for the Department for Work and Pensions to make reforms to Carer’s Allowance and increase weekly payments to £182.36. The level of support from people across the UK means that the proposals are now entitled to a written response from the UK Government.
People in Scotland claiming the new Carer Support Payment are paid at the same weekly rate as DWP and have the same earnings threshold. “Many carers are exhausted, and if we want to work there are strict limits on earnings. We believe carers are taken advantage of and under-supported.” People on Carer’s Allowance in Scotland have now started moving from the DWP to a new devolved benefit.
