The Sweden international has been playing with a broken toe in recent weeks and is a major doubt for the visit of the champions to St James' Park on Saturday
Newcastle United's striker Alexander Isak might miss the upcoming Premier League game against Liverpool's title rivals Manchester City due to a broken toe. Eddie Howe, the head coach of Newcastle, disclosed that although the imposing Swedish striker played through pain in last week's 3-1 loss to Fulham after receiving a painkilling shot, he hasn't trained this week. The Newcastle boss commented: 'He'll be a doubt for tomorrow.
' Explaining the situation, Howe said: 'He had an injection to numb the toe last week and that was fine until the injection wore off. Let's see how he is today.' The 25 year old frontman sustained the injury during the Magpies' 2-1 victory at Wolves, which led to his substitution at the break on September 15. Elaborating on Isak's condition, Howe added: 'He trained last week before the Fulham game on the Friday and he had an injection in his toe to play.
