Following a fundraising drive, the new living tree and lights were officially switched on and, despite the rain, a large crowd was on hand to kick the festive season off in style.
Writing on social media, staff at Newmains Community and Conference Centre said: “We think it’s fair to say that the first Christmas light switch on with our community owned living tree was a huge success, aside from a bit of a downpour, but least the rain stayed off for the switch on!Get all the news from your area – as well as features, entertainment, sport and the latest on Lanarkshire ’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic – straight to your fingertips, 24/7.
