2% of Britons described themselves as Christian on the day of the census last year, down from 59.3% in the last census in 2011. The census data shows the UK is becoming increasingly diverse both in terms of religion and ethnicity, the paper says.The i says it is the first time since the Dark Ages that Christians in the UK are in the minority. Churches' views on women's rights, abortion and sexuality have influenced the religion's decline, the paper says.
