ORANGE COUNTY, California — Former NFL star Terrell Davis, who won two Super Bowls while with the Denver Broncos, says he was “humiliated” after he was removed from a United Airlines flight in handcuffs, insisting he did nothing wrong after a reported incident with a flight attendant.
Davis says he “calmly” reached toward the flight attendant and touched him on the arm to get his attention. Davis says the attendant shouted “don’t hit me” and left the beverage cart in the row, quickly walking to the front of the plane. When the plane landed in Orange County, six FBI and law-enforcement agents boarded the plane as the pilot asked all passengers to remain seated, Davis says. He says the agents immediately placed him in handcuffs “without any explanation” and he was escorted off the plane.Davis says law-enforcement officials “profusely apologized,” saying they determined the flight attendant’s accusation “was inaccurate.
Davis played seven seasons in the NFL, all with the Broncos. He helped lead the team to two Super Bowl victories in the 1997 and 1998 seasons. He was the MVP of Super Bowl XXXII, a victory over the Green Bay Packers. He is one of eight NFL running backs to gain 2,000 yards rushing in a season, with 2,008 yards in 1998.
