Craig McQuillian, 44, poured petrol on the front door of Thomas Shirley's 10th floor flat in Edinburgh in November last year, set it alight and walked away.
A man who set fire to set fire to a block of flats in retaliation for his step son being harassed has been jailed for six years.
Firefighters were called and managed to put out the blaze before it took hold. However, a judge told him 'you only need to look at Grenfell Tower' to imagine the potential consequences of the incident. CCTV footage captured by a neighbour's doorbell camera showed McQuillian calmly walking into a lift to return to the ground floor
Judge Lord Mulholland was shown CCTV footage of McQuillian going into the lift which he got to the 10th floor.He added: 'They managed to phone 999 and asked for the fire service to attend.'McQuillian was caught on CCTV entering the 14-story block in Fidra Court, Edinburgh, at around 11.30pm on November 12, 2023
