The price of a check-up will rise to £25.80 from £23.80 and a filling appointment, which currently costs £65.20, will climb to £70.70.

NHS patients in England are set to see a rise of 8.5 per cent to their dental charges next month.reports. The last time there was an increase was in December 2020, delayed from April of that year due to the Covid pandemic.

"In recognition of access challenges following the Covid-19 pandemic, the Department of Health and Social Care has delivered improvements to the NHS dental contract, announced in July 2022, which will improve access for NHS dental patients and which are supported by this uplift. These changes include a new requirement for practices to update the NHS website at least every 90 days so that patients can more easily see which practices are accepting new patients.

"The most recent uplift was in December 2020, delayed from April 2020 due to the impacts of the pandemic. Whilst there has been no uplift for two years, the cost of delivering NHS dental care has increased." Eddie Crouch, chairman of the board at the British Dental Association, said:"From the patients attempting DIY dentistry to those who've given up even trying to get an appointment, these numbers show a service approaching the end of the road. Both government and opposition need a clear plan to reform and properly fund NHS dentistry.
