As winter temperatures plummet across the country, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is urging people to check in on older and frail neighbours, as well as loved ones.
With temperatures in and around Glasgow dropping to minus three degrees overnight and expected to stay that way for the next 48 hours, the chill is set to continue into the weekend, according to the Met Office. Bitter weather conditions makes it difficult for the elderly to leave their homes, as well, seasonal viruses tend to leave many at risk this time of year. Hence why NHSGGC is urging everyone to take time and check in on those around them who may need extra support.
Beatrix Von Wissman, Consultant in Public Health at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “Tough winter conditions can make it difficult for older and frailer people to leave their homes for essential items. Winter viruses also tend to increase in colder weather, leaving people vulnerable.
