🔴 NHS nurses vote to strike in December over below inflation pay rise, with up to six months of walkouts expected

Royal College of Nursing members have voted in favour of strike action with hospitals across the UK braced for up to six months of walkoutsMany of the biggest hospitals in England will see industrial action by RCN members but others narrowly missed the legal turnout thresholds to qualify for action. All NHS employers in Northern Ireland and Scotland will be included and all bar one in Wales met the relevant legal thresholds.

Health workers in other unions, including ambulance staff, hospital porters and cleaners, are also voting on industrial action. Unison and the GMB are set to announce ballot results later this month. “This action will be as much for patients as it is for nurses. Standards are falling too low and we have strong public backing for our campaign to raise them. This winter, we are asking the public to show nursing staff you are with us.”

“We have well-oiled contingencies in place and the Department of Health is across how we would deal with a scenario like this should it arise,” he said at the weekend.
