The chief executive of the NHS trust that treated Nottingham attacker Valdo Calocane has apologized for 'missed opportunities' in his care, following a damning report. The independent homicide review criticized the trust's treatment of Calocane, who killed three people and injured others in June 2023, despite several violent outbursts. The CEO insists 'a lot has changed' since the killings and points to new risk assessments, discharge processes, and additional nurses.
The chief executive of an NHS trust which cared for Nottingham attacks killer Valdo Calocane says "we should have done better" but insists "a lot has changed" following the publication of a damning report.
"I accept all the findings in their entirety." Mr Majid said several improvements had been made, including changes to risk assessments, discharge processes and the hiring of 80 nurses. He said no patients had been discharged due to non-engagement over the last six months. Despite these "extremely serious incidents", the report says there "appeared to be an absence of action plans, review of actions or shared learning" among leaders at NHFT. Mr Majid said: "I think that prior to me coming there were different processes that were in place in terms of how serious incidents were reviewed.
