The treatment was up for review by Nice to decide whether it should be made permanently available to patients across NHS in England and Wales. The NHS is legally obliged to provide medicines recommended by the watchdog. “Every day counts when you’re living with myeloma because only one thing is certain: myeloma will always come back. This means patients need the best, most effective treatments now.

“I had been walking around with four fractured vertebrae and a fractured sternum for about four months,” he recalled. “I remember reaching for the luggage rack on a plane and feeling sharp pain. It was a spasming pain, quite different from any other pain that I’d had. Nigel has been receiving IsaPD via the Cancer Drugs Fund since 2021 and credits the treatment for allowing him to enjoy “an unexpectedly rich and fulfilling chapter” of his life. He has been in remission for over two years – the longest period to date.
