NHS workers took 7.7 million days of sick leave in a year. Almost a quarter of these days were because of stress, anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues.

Figures showed 4.2 million of sick days taken in a specific time period were related to mental health issues

Staff working for the NHS across England took 7.7 million days of sick leave between December 2017 and November 2018. Helga Pile, deputy head of health of Unison, said staff were having to contend with huge work loads, along with bullying, intimidation and violence from patients.‘Chronic staff shortages mean NHS employees are routinely being asked to do more with fewer resources as they desperately try to keep the service afloat.

According to a survey carried out by mental health charity Mind, more than half of workers across all industries say they are affected by poor mental health in their workplace.
