Trade unions representing Northern Ireland health workers have secured a formal commitment from the Health Minister to maintain pay parity for AFC bands throughout the 2024/25 financial year. This means health workers will receive 10 months of retrospective pay in their March 2025 salaries, with plans to secure funding for the remaining two months. A 5.5% pay award from the Pay Review Body is also being prepared.

Like the unions, I am disappointed we couldn’t get to this point in a quicker, cleaner manner.
Unions have said that they will continue to work with the Health Minister in the new year in order to ensure that he delivers on his commitments. "In practical terms health workers can now expect at least 10 months retrospective pay on their March 2025 pay dates. Health Unions will remain engaged and focused early in the New Year on full delivery of the Ministers commitments."
