The First and deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland are calling on NIE to issue emergency payments to customers left without power following Storm Eowyn. They spoke after an emergency Executive meeting on Monday, where they highlighted the ongoing hardship faced by thousands of people without electricity, water, or communication access for days. Scottish energy providers have already announced up to £2,000 compensation for those affected, and the NI leaders are urging NIE to follow suit.

"This has been a very difficult four days for many, many thousands of people throughout Northern Ireland," deputy First Minister Emma Little Pengelly said. "So we are urging NIE to go away and consider that and come back to us very quickly with an indication of what they want to do, because we know that those people who are without electricity and water are suffering.
She said: "We made the case very strongly to NIE this morning again that we believe that there should be a goodwill paymentbecause some people have had to buy food out all weekend.
