Deirdre Ann McKeown (57), of Galgorm Road, Ballymena, Co Antrim, is currently awaiting trial on six counts of theft and six of handling stolen goods totalling over £8,500.
A "prolific'' shoplifter who has been banned from entering every retail store in Northern Ireland was today granted bail on strict conditions.
She is further accused of stealing clothes to the value of £700 from Cuddy's department store in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry.Her defence today mounted an urgent bail application at Belfast Crown Court to secure her release ahead of a hospital appointment next week. "There is a whole process to go through with healthcare in the prison and the applicant is not allowed to know the date or the time of the appointment for fear she would perhaps have people there to meet her.
He added: "I have serious concerns that despite any promises being given, that an appointment will ever be facilitated by the prison.''
