'It must be very scary to have a sick mummy'
A Northern Ireland mum has hailed a community which wrapped around her and her young family after she was diagnosed with cancer.
"I was lying in bed one night watching the TV and stretched out and that's when I felt it. I thought 'oh, what is this lump?' It was the size of an Aero Bubble, and I will never look at those again the same way. "Then I had my plan, and all plans are bespoke. I got to see the Chaplin and the Macmillan support was fabulous in helping us sort finances out because that is a huge blow. I am an OT as well as doing my degree in Queen's, but suddenly I couldn't work or study.
"The amount of emotional labour that those professionals carry is just incredible. My surgeon is a total legend and the oncologists were just totally amazing. When Victoria went through surgery to have her breast and lymph nodes removed, the cancer was gone. Treatment after that, was to "mop up any stray cells". She is now on a tablet for life, which she calls her "little best friend" because when she takes it, she knows it is going to nurture her.
