'Landlords previously rented to students for nine months during the university term and then rented to holiday-makers'
Students at the Ulster University 's Coleraine campus are feeling the pinch as the "housing crisis" on the north coast limits the availability of rental accommodation, a local MLA has warned.
Economy Minister Conor Murphy has also said he is "aware" of the difficulties faced by students seeking rental accommodation in the area. In a statement, Claire Sugden said: “The housing crisis is affecting families, individuals and now students attending Ulster University. "Students support the local economy outside of peak season – in particular its bars, restaurants and coffee shops. If they cannot obtain accommodation, they will be forced to travel – denying local businesses this vital trade, but also impacting the longer-term appeal of studying here."
