Bob Geldof took up his 'feed the world' riff again on Tuesday telling a Belfast audience he's sickened by a planet that has plenty of food yet sees millions "go hungry ever night".

In an impassioned speech about hunger, the Irish famine, loss of the Irish language, the Troubles and crossing divides, the Boomtown Rats star welcomed delegates to his home island and set out how they can bring change. “And the great Nobel poet Seamus Heaney who talked of precisely that moment when awful history is confronted by determined hope.

“I doubt that Putin or Trump’s idea of a better world is quite the same as mine - so we need to work it out.
