Asked on Tuesday if Ms Sturgeon had been questioned by officers, a Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We don’t comment on who has or has not been spoken to as part of an investigation.” In the wake of Mr Beattie’s arrest, the Scottish Conservatives said Ms Sturgeon should now be suspended from the SNP alongside her husband and the party treasurer.
Tory chairman, Craig Hoy, said this was what had happened when SNP politicians were investigated by police previously and “must be followed here for the benefit of everyone”. He added: “This extremely serious matter is escalating by the day and everyone in the SNP has a duty to be as transparent as possible about what they knew and when.”that Ms Sturgeon would stand down as an MSP ahead of the next Holyrood election in 2026, with a job at the UN or EU being suggested as a possible career move.
