Brendan Rodgers watched his champions make light work of a team who like to trouble them.
Red-hot Celtic backed up their sizzling pre-season with a 4-0 win as the champions wiped the floor with a lifeless Kilmarnock side to kickstart their latest title defence.
Despite the utter domination, the first real chance didn't arrive until the 15th minute when Kyogo unlocked the Kilmarnock defence with a drop of his shoulder. The striker was unfortunate as his dink over Robby McCrorie was slowed by the former Ranger keeper's brave save. Kyogo, Hatate and Matt O'Riley all watched shots saved but Kilmarnock's threadbare shot at a result was ripped away when Liam Scales skimmed a header past McCrorie in the 40th minute. A 2-0 lead at the break was the least the champions deserved as they were a couple shy of 20 attempts in the first half. Celtic never needed to go full pelt from that point on but it was obvious they could race through the gears whenever they wished.
Kyogo goes here, there and everywhere This felt like a watershed performance for the club's talisman under Rodgers' stewardship. Yes, the striker wasn't at his best migrating to life under the Irishman after Ange Postecoglou's exit. But he was still better than most. And this display – which didn't include a goal – was packed with menace and excellent link-up. Kyogo was either coming short to truly affect the game or being his menacing best and working on the last man.
