The right-wing politician and ally of President Trump is poised to play a major role in the campaign days after First Minister John Swinney warned about his influence
Nigel Farage will front Reform UK’s Holyrood election campaign and take part in the TV debates. Thomas Kerr, a councillor for the anti-immigration party, confirmed Farage will play a major role in the pivotal election next year.
Reform do not have a Scottish leader and they look set to rely on Farage in the Holyrood election. Kerr, a Glasgow councillor who defected from the Tories to Reform, told the Sunday National: "I don’t think Nigel will mind me saying to anyone, he loves the limelight - and the exciting prospect of Britain’s most exciting and popular politician up against some of the most boring politicians in John Swinney and Russell and others will be very entertaining.”Reform are believed to have around 8,200 members in Scotland, more than the Conservatives. Experts say their high poll rating is coming at the expense of the Tories and Labour.
In an interview with the Record last week, Swinney said: “If people vote for Labour, they are opening the door for Farage to influence Scottish politics . I don’t think we should open that door. I think we should close that door very firmly.
