Nigeria has received the backing of France to send its forces into Niger to oust the coup’s leader General Abdourahmane Tchiani, despite resistance from neighbouring countries. On Saturday, Ecowas urged Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu, the bloc’s current chair, to seek diplomatic solutions rather than opt for the use of force.
