Mike Knight worked there for nearly 40 years and was hailed the 'King of Clubs'

The funeral of legendary Nottingham nightclub boss, Mike Knight, will take place later this month - but not before one final trip to the historic venue where he worked for almost 40 years. His hearse will make a brief detour to The Palais before heading to Bramcote Crematorium.

He saw Nottingham's oldest and biggest club, in Lower Parliament Street, transform from the Palais de Danse to Ritzy in the 1980s and back to the Palais in 1998, surviving a plethora of ownership changes along the way. Firm but fair, he helped many young staff to go onto greater things in the world of nightclub management.

Mr Knight left the club in 2003 to set up his own business helping others to understand the rules of licensing. He remained chairman of Nottingham City Pubwatch scheme until 2020, stepping down after 32 years at the helm.
