Oscar Piastri has dreamt of this moment his entire life. 🏁 But there's an unfortunate reality facing the Aussie. 👇 F1 BahrainGP 9WWOS

When the Australian signed with McLaren, in July 2022, there was no vacancy at Alpine. Everyone, including Alpine, expected Fernando Alonso to re-sign with the Enstone team, to partner Esteban Ocon.Alpine wanted the best of both worlds, expecting that they could keep Alonso, while farming Piastri out to the struggling Williams team for a season or two, before bringing him back to the team in 2024 or 2025.

At the time that decision was made, the Woking outfit was regarded as the 'Best of the Rest'. Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes were dominating, but McLaren was fourth in the Constructors' Championship, even despite Daniel Ricciardo's well-documented struggles. "Obviously the test wasn't the smoothest, but I think we will get a better understanding of where we are at come ," he said.McLaren's problem is other teams, notably Aston Martin and Haas, seem to have a car that is significantly better than in 2022.

The problem is the other teams won't be standing still either, they'll have their own upgrades which will shift the goalposts even further.

This is going to be a tax nightmare.”
