One suspect has been named and will face court

Nine men were arrested following reports of tragedy chanting at the recent match between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield. The two Premier League giants played a key game in the title race on Sunday afternoon .

Following the match, Merseyside Police made a series of arrests on suspicion of tragedy chanting, which is a public order offence. One man has since been charged and is due to appear in court. Kian Holt, 19, of Weeton Road, Medlar-with-Wesham in Lancashire, was charged with a public order offence under S3 Football Offence Act 1991 . He will appear at Sefton Magistrates Court on January 8, 2025.Officers also arrested a 38-year-old man from Audenshaw, a 32-year-old man from Macclesfield, a 52-year-old man from Denton, a 57-year-old man from Failsworth and a 53-year-old man from Manchester on suspicion of tragedy chanting.

Those six suspects have since been bailed. Two men from Rochdale, aged 47 and 58, who were also arrested on suspicion of tragedy chanting were discharged by Merseyside Police for voluntary attendance. Arne Slot's Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners in Sunday's game, thanks to a first-half Cody Gakpo goal and a second-half Mohammed Salah penalty. City's fourth league defeat in a row saw Pep Guardiola's side slip to fifth place in the table, 11 points behind leaders Liverpool.
