Downing Street has declined to say whether Rishi Sunak has full confidence in either BBC chairman Richard Sharp or director general Tim Davie following the Gary Lineker impartiality row. janemerrick23, ChaplainChloe and HugoGye report:

The Labour leader said the corporation had presided over a “mess of its own making” after thepresenter was taken off air due to his tweets about the Government’s asylum policy.allegations

The BBC is also conducting a review into whether there has been a breach of any conflict of interest rules since Mr Sharp joined the corporation. Mr Sharp has denied involvement in facilitating the loan. Asked about Mr Sharp’s position, the spokesman said: “I think the PM said that the office for the commissioner for public appointments has announced a review of that competition process to recruit the chairman of the BBC to ensure the process was run in compliance with the rules. We will await the outcome of that review.”
