The incident could have been caused by a 'mechanical fault' that caused the taxi window to shatter, say the Met Policemagazine editor was stuck in traffic in Soho, central London, when the driver said a suspected bullet was fired at the vehicle, hitting the window and damaging it.
The Metropolitan Police Service is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, which took place just after 10am on Tuesday.The Metropolitan Police Service said it received reports of a “firearms discharge” in central London directed towards a black taxi while at a standstill in traffic.
In an update at midday on Wednesday, the force said there is “no evidence of a firearms discharge” and initial indications suggest the incident could have been caused by a “mechanical fault” that caused the taxi window to shatter. The Met said: “An investigation was launched and police seized the vehicle. Urgent CCTV and forensic examinations have been conducted.“While enquiries are ongoing, police have found no evidence of a firearms discharge at this time. Initial indications suggest a mechanical fault might have caused the window to shatter. We await further tests.”A police spokesperson said: “At 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday, 1 October, police received a report of a firearms discharge on Dean Street, Westminster.
“The driver of a London black taxi reported that while stationary in traffic, a shot was fired at his vehicle, striking the window.
