A Summit county man is grateful his home is okay after firefighters spent the day battling a wildfire that started nearby.
The Murdock Hollow Fire started Monday in Summit County , not far from Highway 248 , west of Kamas. The cause is still under investigation.
In the final update, officials said the forward progress of the fire was stopped. It only burned about 4.5 acres and was at 90% containment yesterday afternoon.Scott Myers was enjoying his morning coffee, when he saw smoke coming over the hill near his house. "I walked outside and then we saw flames," he said. "We grabbed our four dogs and drove. I thought about what else I should grab. Nothing.""It could have been so much worse, no doubt," he said. "I could have stood here and watched my house burn down. I couldn't thank them enough, and I don't think there's a verbal thank you that's big enough to give them.
While the cause is still unknown, Myers said he notices a lot of cigarette butts along the highway near his home. He asks people to please be careful with dry, windy conditions. "Not only is it litter, but it does things like what happened today," he said. "Whether that's what happened or not, I'll never know."
