A pair of U.S. agencies confirmed Friday that not only was 2023 by far the warmest year on record, it also capped off the hottest decade ever documented—underscoring the need for far more ambitious action to rapidly phase out fossil fuels. The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration maintain separate temperature records, as do other institutions and scientists worldwide.
