A special Speedmaster for the speed master
Noah Lyles won gold in the men’s 100 meters at the Paris 2024 Olympics last night wearing an Omega Speedmaster watch – appropriate given his record-breaking time of 9.79 seconds.Lyle’s Speedy was one of the more unusual models in the line-up, the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Apollo 8” which comes in a black ceramic case. The Dark Side of the Moon was created to commemorate the Speedmaster’s place on the Apollo 8 mission.
Either that or they are optimised for lightness – think of Rafael Nadal whacking a tennis ball about in his Richard Mille RM 27-05 Flying Tourbillon, which weighs 11.5 grammes and is engineered to withstand record-breaking g-force.But The Fastest Man on Earth is obviously not bothered about the potentially slowing effects of competing in accessories. One of the most identifiable looks in what has been called The Fashion Olympics, is Lyles' necklace.
