It’s a spot Seattle police are familiar with. Now, there’s yet another violent crime affecting the neighborhood.12th, and Jackson is just a block over. Together, those two intersections in the Chinatown International District and Little Saigon have accounted for much of the violence and illegal activity in the immediate area.

Go by the spot now, and you’ll see the large illegal black market taking up the sidewalks as people resell various items. It has been there for years. For Henry Ku, who owns the nearby Henry’s Taiwan Restaurant, the list of challenges doesn’t stop there. A man hit by a machete does not seem unusual.over there, the corner,” Ku said, pointing out of his restaurant window. “Machine guns and automatic machine guns!” Ku then imitated a rapid-fire sound from a gun.

“Nobody wants to come here,” Ku said. “You can see the lunch hour. I only have one table. It’s very hard to make a business here.”We took Ku’s frustrations to Seattle Councilmember Tanya Woo. Woo’s family has deep ties to the CID and she has talked to KOMO before on the challenges here.Woo said, “I think it’s going to take a lot of things to happen before this area sees any improvement. It took us many years to get to this point. It’s going to take us hopefully not that long to get out of it.

As the businesses here struggle to stick around, community members tell KOMO that help can’t come soon enough, because they needed action to happen yesterday.
