Thomas Hibbard guilty of 'unprovoked and vicious attack on an innocent victim'
A 21-year old man who stabbed his cousin in the stomach with a pocket knife while ‘off his head’ on drink and drugs was handed a sentence totalling four-and-a-half years on Friday.
The injured party then went out onto the street, met his cousin Hibbard and gave him three cigarettes. Following his arrest, Hibbard initially denied asking his cousin for cigarettes, stabbing the injured party and being under the influence. Also noted by the Judge was Hibbard’s breaches of both bail and licence conditions when he committed the offence. Defence submissions made on behalf of Hibbard highlighted a ‘traumatic and difficult’ upbringing as well as his issues with mental health and substance abuse.
